Melbourne Fresh Daily: EAGLE SCULPTURE

Melbourne Fresh Daily: EAGLE SCULPTURE: "Eagle" is a beautiful sculpture standing 25 metres or about seven storeys high. It is by Bruce Armstrong, one of the most important sculpto...

This site if a great one for anyone appreciating the armchair travelling habit. My appreciations always go to the  administrators of Melbourne City.
Most of the suburbs of Melbourne has been covered by Blogger friend Nick. His enthusiasm in sharing his city specials is amazing.

While I saw this sculpture and the narrative, I was wondering about our own cities/skylines of towns, beaches. Apart from installing huge idols of garishly painted , badly done up images of Gods/leaders, we have no appreciation of contemporary art.

  1. So true...nor of community murals...we do not encourage upcoming talents and local talents sufficiently. Just sit in amazement of ancient architecture!

  3. Hi

During my recent visits to Chennai, I saw quite a few sculptures adorning the city...Mostly of traditional arts like Puliyattam, Poi Kaal Kuthirai etc....Nice move from Chennai corporation!

  7. Thank you for featuring one of my posts in your blog, Vetrimagal.

I feel we are so lucky in Melbourne, as we have some wonderful public art and a city that is relatively clean and safe. I have travelled all over the world and I have seen many places that do not compare as favourably. It is always a good idea to get involved with the politics of one's city/country and try to effect change for the better in whatever way one can.

  10. Welcome here Alka!
Yes, the leaders adorning our streets and the celebrations that take place often and the fights that figure in the media.. Our headaches are endless.

We would rather not have any art form at all, I suppose.

  14. Yes, we hardly have a taste for the classy. Also we are willing to mar the landscape with ugly hoardings as well.

  15. It’s a wonderful sculpture and would be a great landmark to the locality! The effort taken for its maintenance is worth and example... that people need to follow that just erecting a sculpture isn’t enough and the real cause is maintaining and keep the glory always up.

    Thanks for sharing dear.

  16. Jeevan, I am so glad you liked the link. Nick keeps giving glorious photographs of his city Melbourne, and makes me envious!.

We too can have atleast the parks and gardens, but we choose not to.
Look at the public spoiling all those lovely gardens of yesteryears, and erect silly statues ,to gain political advantage.
